Vero Beach, FL – Thomas W. Tierney, a partner with Rossway Swan, a locally based multi-discipline law firm, has been selected as the recipient of The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for 2011 for the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, which includes Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee Counties. The award ceremony was held on January 27, 2011 at The Supreme Court of Florida in Tallahassee, and was attended by Mr. Tierney and his family.
Mr. Tierney has served as the pro bono chairperson of the Indian River County Bar Association for the past three years. Over the past two years, the private attorneys with which he placed cases have provided more than 700 hours of free legal representation to low-income clients. He has been instrumental in assisting residents with counsel and advice at Ask-A-Lawyer Events, Family Law Clinics, Wills on Wheels and various other activities in which he has planned and participated. Mr. Tierney also serves as the president of the Rossway Swan Foundation, which is funded with contributions from the Firm’s profits and assists in the technological development of Indian River County charitable organizations. “Pro bono is an avenue which strengthens our low-income clients and contributes to our neighbors,” notes Tierney. “One of the greatest gifts an attorney can offer is the expertise to build a healthy community and provide access to justice.”
